Overall Winner of Surrey Heritage Awards 2017

Giles Quarme & Associates, the historic building architects, are delighted to announce that they have won another award. This award is for our restoration of the Old Barn at the Royal Automobile Club, Woodcote Park in Surrey. GQA were the OVERALL WINNER of the Surrey Heritage Awards.

The 18th century barn had been used for many years as a garage and storage area, with structural issues and water ingress. Our brief was to transform the building into a heritage centre, workshop and events space, whilst retaining the character and charm of this beautiful building. The awards celebrated the best historic projects in Surrey, with a diverse shortlist including Thomas Hope’s 19th century mausoleum, Arthur Conan Doyle’s former home and other major buildings. The judges commended our light-touch SPAB approach, contrasting modern interventions with careful conservation.
